Assignment 13: My Japanese language journey

 This will be my last blog post, but this will not be the end of my Japanese language learning. I was first introduced to the Japanese language when I studied abroad in Japan. Although, it was fully alien to me at that time. Once I reached my senior spring, I needed 12 credit hours to be considered a full time student. To reach that requirement, I joined the Elementary Japanese 1 class. I have truly enjoyed learning Japanese through this class. I don't think I would have been as motivated to learn Japanese in another setting. Finally, I would like you to all know that this will not be the end of my Japanese learning. I plan to continue studying on my own. Furthermore, I will be applying for the Japanese government's MEXT scholarship to pursue a masters degree in Japan. This scholarship requires me to take intensive Japanese language courses. If I end up pursuing this, I hope that I will return with a more honed Japanese language skill.

 こんにちは！ This week for our blog post, we were tasked with watching some sort of Japanese media, preferable without subtitles. For this I watched Chibi Godzilla (ちびゴジラ) which is accessible through Toho's official youtube channel. I will link that episode I watched below, so you can check it out if you want.  For starters, I love Godzilla. Growing up, it was one of my favorite movie franchises. I was always fascinated by its practical special effects. I thought it was so cool that they built an entire miniature city for the actor in the monster suit to destroy. It always seemed so detailed. Why am I studying Japanese

 I am studying Japanese due to a general interest in the language. This interest was cultivated through out my life. Ever since I was little, I watched anime and read manga which gave me a superficial view of Japanese media. As I got older, I started to study the culture behind manga and anime but not the language. In my sophomore year at Notre Dame, I took Seeing Anime  with Professor Amanda Kennel. This class gave me a significantly more in depth view into Japanese culture and it effects on anime and manga. This made me want to study the language more but not enough to actually take a class in it. At the same time I was taking Seeing Anime , I got accepted into College of Engineering's Japan study abroad program. This allowed me to live and work in Kita-Kyushu and Tokyo.
